The sun is heating things up and we are all ready to get bronzed and look our best. We all know that an airbrush tan is going to leave our skin looking flawless. But the longevity of that tan is determined by how well we care for our skin. So, we thought we’d drop a few quick tips for basic skin care for every season. Of course, you’ll want to modify these based on your skin type.
Spring is the time of year we are itching to get outside. SPF is crucial because our pale winter skin hasn’t built up a base tan and we are extra susceptible to sunburn. For southern climates it’s when the humidity rolls in, which means for more sweat. It’s a good time of year to focus on pore cleansing and gentle exfoliation. Time to slough off the dry skin of winter so your skin will be supple and ready to show off by summer.
Summer skin care is a time for deep hydration. If you live in an arid climate or are spending lots of time in the sun it might be a good time to double down on moisturizer. Moisturized skin stays healthier and ages slower. Start applying moisturizer at night and in the morning. SPF is a must of course, and of course you’ll want to give extra attention to any areas you’re waxing. Waxing and sun exposure can be tough if you have sensitive skin, ask your epilation specialist for a recommendation if you’re feeling sensitive.
Fall is a time of transition for the weather but also for our skin. Fall is a great time for a deep pore detox. You can do this at home with a face mask or if you’re really wanting a luxe experience, book a facial at your favorite spa. Use a gentle cleanser and remember to remove your makeup and moisturize daily.
Winter is a time most of us get lazy about the SPF. But it is still so important if you’re outside. Especially in a snowy climate where (because the sun reflects off the snow) the rays can be even more damaging. Winter also tends to be a drier time of year, so it’s a good time to alternate light exfoliation with deep moisture treatments. (Also, it’s a retail secret that all the best new scents come out around the holidays.) Remember when you’re out doing your holiday shopping to treat yourself to a salt scrub and some yummy, scented body lotions.
The skin is one of the most important parts of your body and it’s one of the first to show signs of aging. Being intentional with how you care for it will help you maintain your look. Also, it’s a good idea to check in with your dermatologist yearly. Set up a daily skin care routine where you cleanse, moisturize and protect (with SPF). Think of it as a few moments of pampering, and your skin will thank you. Not to mention healthy moisturized and freshly exfoliated skin will naturally hold on to an airbrush tan a bit longer. Boss babes know they need to maximize every investment, especially when you invest in yourself.
